About Mayu


Mayu Sierra Tayama is a Japanese-American mezzo-soprano from San Jose, California, who seeks to bridge cultures and communities through the power of music. A former competitive figure skater and track athlete, she discovered her passion for singing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

With a versatile repertoire spanning from baroque to contemporary works and musical theater, she recently premiered Lost in the Scroll at the Mostly Modern Festival in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Ms. Tayama was a first place winner of competitions such as the International Academy of Music Concerto Competition, Pacific Musical Society & Foundation Competition and the American Protégé Vocal Competition. She has also performed in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Solitär Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and Teatro Alfieri in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Italy.

Beyond her performances, Mayu took part in the Kizuna Family Concert in Palo Alto, CA, which raised funds for the Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network.

Mayu is an undergraduate student at the Manhattan School of Music, studying classical voice under the tutelage of Christópheren Nomura.
